Wildcat Exploration Ltd. was incorporated on February 11, 1998 in Manitoba and completed its Initial Public Offering in November, 2000. The Company is presently listed on the TSX Venture Exchange under the symbol WEL. Wildcat was founded with the intention of acquiring and developing mineral properties in the province of Manitoba.
The Company recognized that the Bissett area of the Rice Lake greenstone belt was an under-explored historic gold camp. The belt lies in the Uchi sub-province, a geological environment containing several prolific gold camps including Red Lake (historic gold production exceeds 24 million ounces), Pickle Lake (historic gold production exceeds 3 million ounces) and the Musselwhite mine (historic gold production exceeds 2.4 million ounces). Wildcat believes that the Rice Lake area offers significant potential for shareholders. Wildcat commenced a land acquisition program during 1998, by staking and by acquisition from third parties, with the objective to consolidate a significant land position.
Wildcat has four separate projects in the Rice Lake Greenstone Belt area in close proximity to the town of Bissett. This area is prospective for base and precious metals in geological environments similar to those of the Red Lake camp in Ontario. The Company has a 100% interest in 164 mineral claims in the area.
Wildcat succeeded in consolidating the largest land position in the Bissett mining camp with a 100% interest in 161 mineral claims organized into four separate gold project areas. Included in the properties are two historic producing mines, the Poundmaker and the Jeep.
The Company has continued to diversify its property portfolio geographically in central Canada to include base metals with the addition of the Foster River zinc-lead-silver project and the Reed Lake copper-zinc and nickel-copper properties.
In 2004 the Company acquired the Foster River zinc project in Saskatchewan. The property consists of over 8000 hectares in 3 claim blocks, 120 kilometers northwest of La Ronge.
Additionally, in 2004 the Company acquired the Reed Lake property in the Flin Flon – Snow Lake greenstone belt of Manitoba. The Reed Lake project area was expanded in 2010 to total 8,037 hectares in 43 contiguous claims. Recent drilling by other companies to the north, west and south of the property, has discovered promising occurrences of copper, zinc and nickel. Airborne geophysics and ground investigations by the Company indicate that similar mineralization is present on Wildcat’s property.
